Any performance or reliability changes after using -overall is a result of the device being reinstalled, and not because of the driver. The driver is even used when using RAID, which is still supported for Z77, so if it wasn't supported, then RAID wouldn't work. The driver is fully compatible with Z77, just Intel decided to drop official support for it. This driver is installable on Z77 machines, you just have to force install it. For the AHCI driver, it would be best to use the latest 14. descriptor files, nothing more! Many are 'additive' to the machine.inf file, basically just new information in the machine.inf file, but using the same Microsoft system drivers. INF file, you can see exactly what they are. If you sort the files by 'Date Modified' you will be able to see the latest files as per the time you install the chipset drivers. If you look under C:\Windows\INF you will find a whole lot of files names OEM#.inf (where # is the number of the file). These are still 'null' drivers, meaning they aren't actually drivers. I closed all programs in background and the drivers installed no problem. Had to manually close installer, reboot, and once I did installer loaded it self back up again. I had steam and msi ab running and I got a hang when installing. WARNING! Make sure you close down ALL applications.
